An Amazing Race event in Southern California.
Just got back from TARCon West! It was so much fun watching The Amazing Race with a bar full of people who are as crazy about the show as I am. Everyone was very friendly -- a bunch of people I didn't know asked me to sit with them right away and everyone talked and mingled all night liked old friends. The buttons (see above) I had made up were a big hit too. I brought my camera but ended up not taking too many pictures. I thought I'd taken more of the TWoPers (That's short for "people who post on the Television Without Pity web site") but not only did I take less than I thought but it seems like the only ones that really came out were of the racers. That's right -- we got to watch the Amazing Race finale with people who'd actually been on the race!
That means I got to meet Steve and Josh (a.k.a. Geezer and Weezer) from this year's race, Mike and Cathy from last season (before I was clued in to what a great show this is) and the Amazing Team Guido (Bill, Joe & their dog Guido) from the first season. I know I'm supposed to be impressed with having met real racers and I am, but to be honest the highlight of my trip was meeting "geezersgirl" (real name Karen, wife of Geezer. mother of Josh) who was so friendly and outgoing and acted like it was her duty in life to make sure we all had a good time and met everyone. (She succeeded, too.)
I was also fascinated with Bill of Team Guido because he reminds me of someone. It took most of the night but finally I figured it out -- he's a younger, better looking version of my old CEO Bill Campbell! It was fun to stand next to Joe and watch this year's Team Who? (Jeff and Dave) get "Guido'd" in Hawaii too -- kind of surreal. Plus their little dog, Guido, is so cute. Normally I'm not a big fan of little yippie lap dogs who travel around with their owners in hand bags but Guido is as mellow as can be and didn't yip once all night.
